Worksite Injury Statistics

According to recent data, work site injuries are a concern no matter the industry.Injuries such as slips, trips, falls, strains, and exposure to hazardous substances make up the top 75% of occupational injuries. (Injuryfacts.nsc.org) Contributing factors can include:

  • Poor work area setup and housekeeping
  • Inadequate safeguards
  • Poor communication
  • No systems for reporting problems
  • Worker inexperience
  • Inadequate training
  • Fatigue and or stress

Safety Tips for Worksite Safety

Safety Tip #1 Housekeeping and Inspections

Regular housekeeping and inspections are essential to maintain a clean and organized work site. Inspections help identify and eliminate potential hazards such as debris, spills, and obstructions that can lead to slips, trips, and falls. Ensure a clear and easy route to exit the area if it becomes dangerous to stay.

Safety Tip #2 Hazard Assessments

Regular hazard assessments are crucial in identifying potential dangers and implementing preventive measures. Thoroughly evaluate work processes, equipment, electrical hazards, chemical exposures, and the surrounding environment.

Safety Tip #4 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Start with a PPE assessment. What PPE is needed for the job? What hazards are present? PPE can include helmets, safety goggles, gloves, and high-visibility clothing. By wearing the appropriate PPE, we protect against potential injuries, such as head trauma, eye injuries, hand injuries, and more. PPE usage should be consistently enforced.

Safety Tip #5 Reporting Hazards

Creating an open and proactive reporting culture is essential in identifying and addressing hazards promptly. Workers should be encouraged to report potential risks or incidents. Reporting allows for timely action to be taken.

Safety Tip #6 Situational Awareness

Situational awareness involves always being alert and attentive to one’s surroundings. You can identify potential hazards, anticipate risks, and respond appropriately by remaining vigilant.

Safety Tip #7 Adhere to safety protocols

Follow safety procedures when operating equipment or machinery. Make sure to use spotters where and when required. Use proper lifting techniques to prevent strains and back injuries.

Safety Tip #8 Take Regular breaks

Take regular breaks and avoid fatigue. Stay hydrated! Fatigue and dehydration can impair judgment and reaction times.

Safety Tip #9 Safety Meetings and Training

Attend safety meetings and training sessions to enhance your knowledge and skills. Don’t complain, either. We are trying to make sure you go home in one piece. You’re welcome!

Safety tip #10 Safety Culture

Foster a culture of safety by looking out for your fellow employees’ well-being and promoting open communication. If you see a co-worker is struggling or needs help don’t hesitate to ask if they are okay or if you can lend them a hand.
